How To Save Money On Interior Painting, Madison Ct

There are a lot of ways to save money when you are looking for a painting estimate.  “How To Save Money On Interior Painting, Madison Ct” is set up to give you a few tips.

There are several ways to accomplish this, for interior work the best time to call is in January, this is  when things get slower then other parts of the year, you can have the work booked for that month if the contractor has time, or you can ask to have it scheduled for Feb or March.

Another way is to have the estimate done in the summer or fall and ask to be put on the schedule in the winter months, you should get a discounted price because this is when things are slower and contractors are looking for work, ask for a winter discount for booking now.

We have been painting houses in Guilford Ct, painting houses in Madison Ct and done all kinds of house painting from New Haven Ct to Old Saybrook Ct.  If you need any advice about how to paint a house in Ct just call us, we are happy to help!

Painting Contractor Westbrook Ct

Hiring a professional painting contractor can really take the stress out of painting your home, but how to choose the right one?  Getting a referral is a great start, but the contractor that is being referred to you by a well meaning friend or family member may have worked well for them, but might not suit you.  This is why I created this article “Painting Contractor Westbrook Ct” Lets get the technical issues out of the way right now in this article.  Here they are:

1. Make sure they have insurance

2. They must be a licensed contractor in Connecticut.  You can find out if they are licensed and what the status of the license is at: https://www.elicense.ct.gov/lookup/licenselookup.aspx

3. More then one way to get hold of them, such as cell phone, office phone and email.

4. A good website with detailed information about what they do and how they go about it.

5. Referrals at least 2-3

6. A clearly written detailed estimate of work to be performed with a time frame and cost.

Now, once you confirm all of the above lets get to the unspoken part of finding a contractor. I am writing this not as a painting contractor owner, but a consumer.

Say you call one of the highly recommended contractors that a friend or family member raved about, and you meet with him but you feel that you just don’t connect with him and the first thing you question to your self is “is it me”?  It most likely is not you, but a simple personality clash.

When I invite a contractor to my home, the most important thing for me is that I feel like I can talk to him/her.  I need to know that they want to talk about the job, not just the facts but about what kind of end result I am trying to accomplish. I need to feel that they are happy to be here and eager to work with me.  The contractor must be patient and let me talk.  It’s important that he asks questions, this implies that he is thinking about everything I am saying.  I need to know he understands me and I don’t want to feel like I am wasting his time or he is in a hurry to leave.

Once a contractor leaves, I look for an estimate in writing within 72 hours.  If I don’t get one, that’s a deal breaker for me.  Some people might say “he’s really busy, that’s a good sign, he must be so good” NOT TRUE!  What that means in my mind is he can’t keep up with his demand.  He doesn’t properly hire help to service the work load and bookings that he has, which means my future schedule with him can go right out the window!  If they are that busy then he should make that clear to me, and let me know that if he gets my job, when he can get to it.  I dont’ mind waiting, but I don’t want to be jerked around as if my schedule and life do not matter.

So, I hope this perspective helps! There’s a lot more to hiring a contractor then the obvious reasons!

How To Find Paint Supplies Guilford Ct

With so many different brands and stores carrying paint supplies it can be overwhelming trying to find the perfect store that offers a good variety at a great value, so we created this article  “How To Find Paint Supplies Guilford Ct” to help with that.

We have been painting contractors for 37 years and have tried practically everything!  If you live in the Connecticut area, I would suggest you try Rings End, they have many locations spread out over Connecticut. Why?  I have been dealing with them for over six years and just to start, the customer service is outstanding!  They also offer the Benjamin Moore line.  The Benjamin Moore line offers the widest variety of paints from the highest quality to contractors grade, and I have to tell you that all the lines are fantastic!

Coronado is one of their newer lines and its a little more economical and high quality!  If you would like a no VOC paint, which I highly reccomend,  try Natura, it’s great!

If you don’t live in the Connecticut area and can’t get to a Rings End, then I suggest locating the largest paint chain in your state and starting there.  The big box retailers like Home Depot do have a nice paint department, but you will not get the same customer service and advice that you will from a smaller and well stocked paint store that only sells paint!

I hope that this article “How To Find Paint Supplies Guilford Ct” was helpful!  Please feel free to call or email us with any questions you may have or for advice on products, we are happy to help you!  Of course if you live in the Connecticut area and would like us to come out to meet with you for a free professional evaluation and estimate of your painting needs we are happy to do so!

Thank you!

How To Paint A Garage Floor Guilford Ct

Garage floors take a beating, but they don’t have to look like they do! If your garage floor is stained with grease, dirt and rust, painting it can give the floor and the garage a new fresh look! You can choose from a wide range of colors, but if you work inside your garage alot, you might want to consider a lighter toned color that would reflect light.  You can also add colorful specs to the floor!

A latex base paint is good, or you can use a one step or two step epoxy paint system for garage floors.  Sherwin Williams and Rings End both carry great products for garage floors as well as other main paint stores.

When you do choose the brand, be sure to pay close attention to the instructions and in particular the temperature range the floor must be.  The floor temperature and temperature in the air is not the same thing, usually when the paint fails it’s because it was to humid or cold.

Check the floor surface, if there are cracks or holes be sure to fill the cracks and holes with concrete patch.  If your garage floor gets wet alot, treat with  a concrete water proofer before painting, do not use a waterproofer if you are using epoxy on the floor.

Next you need to clean the floor, if there is grease stains use a de-greaser and brush and thoroughly clean the floor, you can cut down on elbow grease by renting a floor maintainer machine.  Make sure the floor is clean of any grease or sealers of any kind.

Next you are ready to apply the expoxy kit or paint.  Be sure to read the instructions carefully.  With the epoxy kit, you have about two hours to apply, so map out beforehand how you want to go about it.  Make sure the weather outside is not wet or humid.  You will need a two to three day drying time and then another two to three days before you put your car in the garage!

I hope this article How To Paint A Garage Floor Guilford Ct helped!

If you need any other help or advice please feel free to call us or set up an appointment for a free professional evaluation and estimate.

Tips For Painting The Inside Of Your Home Guilford Ct

Painting the inside of your home can give a tremendous boos to the beauty of your home and making everything look fresh and new! You can hire a professional or do it yourself!   If you choose to do it yourself then you have found the right article!  Your Home “Tips For Painting The Inside Of Guilford Ct” is designed to give you a few simple steps to help secure the best outcome and a high quality paint job!

Here are the steps:

1. Examine the wall closely and see if you need to patch any areas, after patching be sure to fill any hole, crack or dent.  After this, will need to sand the walls lightly to smooth out any imperfections.  This is the worst part of the job, but also the most important!

2. Lightly dust off the walls with a soft cloth and make sure the walls are clean of all dust.

3. Be sure to protect the floor area with a drop cloth

Next, you apply a coat of primer to the wall.  There are good reasons to use a primer, for one, it helps to prevent bleed through’s if you are painting over a dark toned color.  Priming also helps the finish coat of paint to adhere better and it can be helpful if you only want to apply one finish coat of paint instead of two (if you are painting over a deep toned color, you might still need more then one coat of finish paint even if you prime)

Quick note:  If you don’t want to reach to far or use a ladder, consider purchasing an extentsion pole that you can attach to your roller to help reach in the higher places.   You might also want to consider using a no VOC paint!  This eliminates inhaling harmful chemicals and paint odors! There are alot of high quality no VOC paints out there.

Use a paint grid to place in your bucket, fill the bucket halfway up the bucket.  Gently put your roller in the bucket and roll it a few times on the grid to remove any excess paint. To much on the roller can wreak havoc smoothing it on the wall not to mention causing lots of drips!

If you don’t finish in one day, just wrap your brushes and rollers in plastic tightly, put it a big zip lock baggie and put in the fride!  It keeps the paint fresh and moist. The next day take the stuff out of the fridge thirty to forty five minutes before you want to use them and you are good to go!  Same goes for the bucket of paint, you can just put a lid on the plastic bucket  and store the unused paint in there for the next day!

After you are done painting, just rinse out your equipment with warm water and they are ready  to go for the next paint job!  If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me, I am happy to give out professional advice!  Of course we are happy to come out and give you a free professional estimate / evaluation of your work!

I hope Tips For Painting The Inside Of Your Home Guilford Ct was very helpful!

How To Get A Painting Estimate Guilford CT

dave's photo

When I do a search I will enter my town name and a few towns that are near me so that I get a contractor that is based within thirty minutes from my town, I prefer someone local.

When you start going through the list, pick a contractor in the top half of the first page. Why? This usually is a indication that they are searched out a lot and are more established.  It’s very helpful if they have a website, it shows a comittment to the consumer to disclose as much information about them as possible.

When you call or email the contractor, pay close attention to how long it takes for them to answer you, it should take no longer then 24 hours!  The best response is a same day response! This is an indicator to how fast they will respond when you hire them!

Make sure they have the following information:

1. A Home Improvement Contractor license by the State of Ct (this is mandatory)

2. All painting contractors must have a Lead License! They should have a certificate and Lead      License number

3. Proof of Insurance

4. References

After they meet with you make sure you receive a written estimate within three business days. Make sure on the estimate it outlines how many coats of paint, are dark colors included, are finishes like Eggshell included, what is extra, how long will the job take, when can they start?

These are important questions and everything should be in writing!

I hope “How To Get A Painting Estimate Guilford Ct ” was helpful!

Please feel free to call us with any questions you may have on any contracting topic!

We are happy to come out and meet with you as well to give you a full professional evaluation!

Sincerely,

Dave Moffitt

WHY USE NON-TOXIC PAINTS?

First, the bad news:
Indoor air is three times more polluted than outdoor air!  According to the EPA our indoor air is listed as one of the top 5 hazards to our health!  A good start to reduce the level of pollution in our indoor air is the type of paint that you have on your walls, doors and trim.
Painting products and finishes are among the leading causes of indoor air pollution!   After you have painted your home, the paints and the finishes continue to release low level toxic emissions into your breathing air for years after the application!  The source of these toxins is VOC’s (Variety of volitile organic compounds) which until recently were essential to the performance of paint.
Now, the good news!
Painting manufactures have caught on and there are many brands out there that offer No Voc based paint.
Benjamin Moore has Pristine Eco Spec and Sherwin Williams has Harmony. These are just a few, if you have a favorite paint brand that you are used to using, chances are they offer a No Voc line of paint and finishes!  These brands are high quality, better for your health and cost effective!
Remember to open a few windows and doors at the end of the day if you have been painting, even for a few minutes will help freshen the air!

5 Biggest “Don’ts” When Choosing an Exterior Color

exterior painting new haven county fairfield county House painting risks and rewards

Over the years, hundreds of homeowners have asked us for advice when it comes to selecting a color for their home’s exterior.  And since the right color combination for any home depends upon a variety of factors – like architectural style, location, and personal taste – we thought we’d compile our expert’s list of what not to do.  Here goes:

1) Don’t feel bound by tradition.

If you have an older home, feel free to honor the past with an historically accurate color scheme.  But don’t be afraid to upend tradition with exciting results – like using a bold blue or bubblegum pink to dramatize architectural details.  Savvy homeowners in trendy (and even not-so-trendy) neighborhoods know that skillful color usage can disguise design flaws and even boost the overall curb appeal of their home.

2)  Don’t ignore your neighbors.

Strategic color usage can add curb appeal and value (see #1 above), but not if your house becomes the laughingstock of the neighborhood.  A good rule of thumb?  Choose colors that set your house apart, without clashing with nearby buildings.  Likewise, let the house next door give you paint color ideas, but don’t copy your neighbor exactly.

3)  Don’t work against your home’s existing assets.

Every home has some features that won’t be painted, like brick walls, vinyl windows or a natural wooden door.  That said, choose a color scheme that harmonizes with colors already present on your house.

4)  Don’t mess with the laws of physics.

For those of you who missed it in high school science class, Michel Eugene Chevreul invented a 72-part color circle that essentially maps how the brain interprets color.  Taken together with theories on perspective developed by Leonardo DaVinci, Chevreul’s work determined that dark colors seem to shrink objects, while light colors seem to expand them.  The lesson for homeowners?  To make your house seem bigger, stick with lighter exterior hues.

5)  Don’t forget: Less is more.

Even on the most ornate of gingerbread Victorians, using too many colors in your exterior palette can totally overwhelm your house (along with anyone passing by).  Strike a balance by sticking to no more than 3 or 4 complementary shades.

One final tip?  Contact Coastline Painters today for more great color guidance.  We’re ready to help you create the home of your dreams.

Help your environment and budget with green, eco-friendly painting

green painting new haven county fairfield county3 Sensible green painting options

Want a healthier home, lower utility bills and a cleaner planet?  Then consider using paints that meet today’s higher standards for environmental performance, lasting beauty and long-term value.  Fact is, consumers looking to save money and the environment have more choices than ever before.  Here’s how to take advantage of more sensible options for your next painting project right now:

Choose a Low-VOC Paint

All paints contain some level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), but paints with higher levels can trigger asthmatic or allergic reactions, and even contribute to air pollution.  Because they release fewer toxins into the air during the drying process, low-VOC paints are considered safer to people and less harmful to the environment.

Green Seal, a non-profit environmental standards organization, makes it easy to identify less toxic paints that also have great coverage and durability.  Visit www.greenseal.org/standards/paints.htm to view their paint evaluation criteria, or let Coastline Painters help you select a safe paint that meets your decorating needs.

Choose Recycled, Reblended or Surplus Paints

Consumers looking to reduce costs and environmental impact may want to consider commercially produced recycled content paint, which contains 50-80% recycled content.  It’s filtered, mixed, sorted and tested to ensure consistent quality, and it’s sometimes available direct from the supplier at no cost.  (Keep in mind, however, that it may need to be special-ordered, and is usually limited to earth tones).

Moreover, many municipalities create reblended paints from leftover paints brought to their household hazardous waste facilities.  While color palettes are limited, the paint is typically of reasonable quality and available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.  Although this may not fit clients with more exacting needs, it is a more budget-conscious solution.

Choose the Right Paint Color and Quality

It’s true: The right paint color can actually lower your electricity bill.  Lighter colors reduce your need for artificial light, by bouncing natural light from windows and fixtures throughout your room.  Moreover, choosing a high-quality paint that comes with a performance warranty will reduce your need for costly additional coats and potentially hazardous removal down the line.

Selecting the right paint doesn’t have to break the bank or harm the planet.  Contact Coastline Painters for a free quote to see how we can help you make better choices for your next painting project.
