Baby Boomers Love to Travel With Their Pets! Says Guilford Ct Painter

Why is a painting contractor from Guilford Ct writing about Baby boomers and travel?  Because I am a baby boomer!  I promote my painting company with the purpose in mind to give my customers as much valuable, interesting and useful information as possible, and that doesn’t mean it always has to be about painting!  I love to travel and thought it would make an interesting article!

Anyone born between 1946 and 1964 is a Baby Boomer! We are all in various stages of the empty nest!  Some of us have kids that have already graduated college, some still have kids in college and some are getting ready to send their kids to college.  This means that the kids are no longer home full time and it frees us up to travel!   Recent studies show that we equal 28% of the US population.

Here’s the fun part, when we travel, more then half of us like to take our furry family members with us!  So, there are a few things to work out, what is the best kind of pet to own and travel with?  They say to choose a pet the most closely reflects your personal lifestyle!

For those of us that are into outdoor physical activity, you might want to think about getting a dog from the sporting group such as a Lab, a Golden Retriever, a English Springer Spaniel or a Weimaraner.  These are good natured dogs that love exercise!

For those of us that live in a small home and/or have a few physical limitations, a smaller dog is the way to go, such as a Toy Poodle, Shih Tzu ( I have one of these, they are amazing) Maltese, (I had one of these, they are loving but a little on the vocal side!) and a Yorkie!

Whatever animal you pick, pets are a tremendous addition to the family, and some studies have shown that they can improve your heath! Here are a few helpful links when traveling with your pet!

Painter in Guilford Ct Reviews Home Depot

Guilford Ct is a beautiful small town with wonderful people and stores.  We have a local hardware store called Page’s Hardware that we would recommend to anyone!  Their service is outstanding!

But sometimes, being a painter, painting contractor, I have to head over to the big box store Home Depot for something that I can’t get in my hometown of Guilford Ct.   As a painting contractor, there are times when I have a big job and it requires a very large order, Home Depot always has paint in stock, so I can call ahead and have the order ready for pick up when I get there.  They also have a special entrance and check out for contractors that I find very helpful and saves me a lot of time.

Home Depot also carries a large variety of tools and lumber.

I hope this blog Painter in Guilford Ct Reviews Home Depot was helpful!  If you need any professional advice just call us!  If you are in my area and would like a free painting estimate and professional evaluation of your home, you can call or email us to set up an appointment!dave's photo

PICKING A PAINTER GUILFORD CT

I am writing this article PICKING A PAINTER GUILFORD CT to help give you some guidelines on what to look for in a painter!  Here are a few basics:

1. Make sure they are fully insured with workers compensation insurance 2. Liability insurance 3. commercial auto insurance

2. They must be licensed in the state of Connecticut through the Department of Consumer Protection.  You can go on their website to look up a company name to make sure they hold a current license. They are also suppose to carry a small wallet size card from the state with their license name and number on it.

3.  They must have a lead license.  There are no exceptions to this, this is a serious safety issue!

4. Get a few references, ask where they buy their paint, you can call the paint store to check them out as well!

5. How long have they been in business? This is important!  Will they be around if you need to call them a year down the road?

Another important consideration is time.  How long did it take for them to return your call for an estimate?  How long does it take to get a fully written detailed estimate from them after they meet with you?  The state has guidelines that contractors must follow in their estimates.  They must specify the dollar value of course, and also when they will start the job and how long it will take.  They need their license number on the estimate.  Do they have an office?  Do they have a website that gives you more information about their company?  How about a cell phone number and email?    Some things are not required by the state like a website, but it shows their professionalism and effort to make sure it’s easy to reach them and to give you valuable informaton!  Our website has a blog that we add to everyday with informative articles to educate you about different topics.  We paint houses in Guilford Ct and Madison Ct as well as other neighboring towns!

I hope that this article PICKING A PAINTER GUILFORD CT was helpful!  If you have any questions please contact us by phone or email!  We are happy to talk to you!dave's photo

HOW TO CHOOSE EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR FOR YOUR HOME Madison Ct

The exterior color of your home is an expression of your personal style! Painting or staining your home is also the best way to protect your siding and trim from the elements.   How long a paint or stain job can protect your home totally depends on the quality of materials and how the materials are applied to the siding and trim.  We wrote this article HOW TO CHOOSE EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR FOR YOUR HOME Madison Ct  to help you with this.

There are some great LOW-VOC exterior stains and paints now available using new technology that stands the test of time and elements better then the brands that have been on the market for years! There is Aura exterior paint, Arborcoat waterborne exterior stain to name a few.

A few things to consider when picking an outside color:

1. Your driveway, the chimney and the roof should play a role in deciding a color. If you choose a color that has similar shades in the roof, chimney and driveway, it will add harmony to the entire property, and also give a feeling of spaciousness.

2. If you have stone work on the house or a stone fence, using a color that blends with the stone work will give a sense on continuity and beauty.

3. If your home is in the west coast where there are a lot of terra-cotta roofs, picking a soft neutral color will help even out the intense color of the terra-cotta and bring more visual harmony to the entire look and a softness.

4. If you belong in a community or houses that are close together, you might consider choosing a color palate that is compatible with the homes in your neighborhood.  The color does not need to be the same, just a color that goes with the general scheme in your area.

5.  Landscaping also has an impact on the overall look.  If you have a brilliant display of colors around the yard, you might go with a soft color to offset the beautiful intensity of the garden, or if you have a subdued garden, you can choose a louder house color!

6. I would encourage you to choose a white or very very light color for the trim.  Choosing a trim color that is different from the siding color can be tricky.  It can make your home look smaller and also force your eyes to just see the trim and not the entire home.

7. Use the doors as another way to add a pop of color to your home. It’s not such a big amount of color that it overtakes your home, it’s just enough to add a little fun and kick!

If you are meeting with a contractor, they should be able to give helpful tips.  It’s also a good idea to go to your local paint center and get a bunch of color choices and put them on the house so you can see the color throughout the day as the light changes.

What Is No VOC paint in Guilford Ct

First, what are VOCs  in paint? They are Volatile Organic Compounds in house paint.  VOCs are solvents that release into the air for years after the paint is applied, heavily when the paint is drying but VOCs  keep releasing for years after the paint dries.

This article called” What is no Voc paint in Guilford” is intended to give you some information on what VOCs are.  You can also find VOCs in products other then paint, such as home cleansers, glues, adhesives.  Some symptoms of breathing VOCs are headaches and dizziness.   Here is a link to a list of common household products that have VOCs  http://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/indoors/voc.htm

VOC or Volatile Organic Compounds are actually chemicals that manufactures use when making house paint, interior home furnishings, personal care products and also in common household cleansers.   The word “Volatile”  means that these chemicals evaporate and infiltrate the air we breathe at just room temperature!  The term “Organic” means that these chemicals are Carbon based, and the phrase “Chemical emissions” refers to VOC’s that evaporate into the air we breathe from these products.

The good news is that major paint manufactures are getting on board and creating paint products with No VOC’s! They recognize that people are very aware of what they buy and are choosing the healthiest product possible!

Major paint companies now produce a line of paint that has no VOCs in it, such as Benjamin Moore’s “Natura” or Behr “Premium”  and Sherwin Williams offers “Harmony”

WHY USE NON-TOXIC PAINTS?

First, the bad news:
Indoor air is three times more polluted than outdoor air!  According to the EPA our indoor air is listed as one of the top 5 hazards to our health!  A good start to reduce the level of pollution in our indoor air is the type of paint that you have on your walls, doors and trim.
Painting products and finishes are among the leading causes of indoor air pollution!   After you have painted your home, the paints and the finishes continue to release low level toxic emissions into your breathing air for years after the application!  The source of these toxins is VOC’s (Variety of volitile organic compounds) which until recently were essential to the performance of paint.
Now, the good news!
Painting manufactures have caught on and there are many brands out there that offer No Voc based paint.
Benjamin Moore has Pristine Eco Spec and Sherwin Williams has Harmony. These are just a few, if you have a favorite paint brand that you are used to using, chances are they offer a No Voc line of paint and finishes!  These brands are high quality, better for your health and cost effective!
Remember to open a few windows and doors at the end of the day if you have been painting, even for a few minutes will help freshen the air!
