The Importance Of Cleaning Exterior of Your Home By House Painter In Madison Ct

With spring around the corner and it’s a great time to walk around the outside of your home and access what needs to be done.  I guarantee that most of us have homes that could use a good cleaning due to dirt, mildew and residue from leaves etc.. that is why I created this blog “The Importance Of Cleaning Exterior Of Your Home By House Painter In Madison Ct”  to give a few valuable tips weather you are doing the cleaning your self or hiring someone to do it for you!

If you are hiring a professional to do it here is a link to an earlier blog I did on what to look for when hiring a contactor of any trade: http://coastlinepainters.com/uncategorized/painting-contractor-westbrook-ct/

When your home is left with dirt on it, the effects can pile up quickly, dirt and mildew reduce the life of your paint job and eat through just about anything.  Once the paint starts chipping and peeling then the outside elements have direct contact with the wood on your house and can cause moisture, which can cause wood rot.    Your beautiful home now looks tired and run down.

What’s the solution?  Power wash your home at least every two years!  A lot of people and professionals use basic bleach.  If you don’t want harsh chemical’s around your home, you can opt to use a eco friendly product! Be careful here though, if a “green” cleaning product says it’s “all natural” or “green” that doesn’t mean it doesn’t contain harsh chemical’s.  Green cleaning is not regulated by any goverment agency, anyone can advertise their products as green and they really are not!  Try to find a “Green Seal Certified” house cleaner they have great standards!  Simple Green offers a great line of products, or ask at your local paint store!   If you have used a professional house painter in the past, ask them, or go to a paint store and ask there.

I hope this blog ” The Importance Of Cleaning Exterior Of Your Home By House Painter In Madison Ct” was helpful!  We are professional house painters in Guilford Ct and we serve the entire shoreline area!  Please feel free to call us with any questions, we are very happy to help!

Best Time To Paint Interior, Guilford Ct

There are several good reasons to paint your home in the late fall and winter months!  Some people don’t want to because of the odor and fumes.  Luckily, there are great solutions to these issues!  This is why I created this blog “Best Time To Paint Interior, Guilford Ct”

One good reason is the cost, in the late fall months and the winter months many painting contractors slow down, they are looking to fill schedules for work!  What does this mean to you?  A discounted price! When we are busy, we are not going to discount work, but when there  is a need we will do what we can to secure you as a long term customer!

We have been house painters, painting contractors in the Guilford Ct area, the Madison Ct area and up and down the shoreline for many years and we are always offering great coupons on seasonal work to book it as early as possible! So when should you start looking for a house painter for interior painting in the late fall and winter months?? Believe it or not, start in August and September!  Why not?  You get a great price and by booking an interior house painter early, you get priority booking!  This matters, especially if you are planning a nice winter vacation get away, or if you have company coming!

But more importantly we care about our customers, and a lot has changed in the painting industry since we started house painting in Branford Ct many years ago! When we started out in the mid 70’s there was not a lot of information about VOC’s.  Now, there is so many websites and places that provide free information about this.  We want to give our customer’s not just a great interior paint job, but the healthiest way to do it! That means paying attention to what’s in the paint!

Now that all said, some people will say “the house smells and we can’t open the windows because it’s cold outside”!  Well, there have been a lot of improvements over the years with paints.  I remember for many years, when we would paint inside, the customer would smell it for days!  Even long after it dried, you would walk in the house and all you could smell was the paint as if we had just put it on!  NO MORE!

Benjamin Moore has a line of paint that is called Natura Waterborne Zero-Voc and Zero Emissions Paint !  This product line was created by Benjamin Moore to provide the most eviromentally friendly paint, it is not only a zero VOC paint, it offers absolutely NO EMISSIONS!  Which means no smell, no inhaling harmful chemicals long after the paint dries!  Consumers think that because the paint is dry and you can’t smell it any longer that it’s not putting out harmful Emissions, this couldn’t be further from the truth!  This is why when you decide to paint the interior of your home using a professional house painter in your area or a house painter in Guilford Ct you need to request the NO VOC and Zero Emissions paint.

The initials VOC stand for Volatile Organic Compounds, these compounds are a large group of carbon-based chemicals.  these compounds have been linked to respiratory illnesses!  There is a misconception that if you can’t smell the paint, then there are no VOC’s, there is paint that has VOC’s and they have no odor!

VOC levels indoors are usually about five times higher then outdoors.  When studies have been done focusing on the effect that VOC’s have on our health they take into consideration they have found that low levels over a long period of time can cause many harmful health outcomes such as:

Headaches, Nose irritation, eye irritation, Nausea, Vomiting, dizziness, asthma symptoms can become worse.  Long term exposure to high levels of VOC’s can increase the risk of:  Cancer, liver damage, kidney damage and central nervous system damage. I don’t want to freak you out, but it’s always good to get a broad spectrum of understanding of this product.

There are a lot of good websites out there that help educate the public about VOC’s and air pollution that we breathe in our homes and ways to reduce it. This can feel daunting, but small steps add up to big ones!

Unfortunately there are many places in our home that has VOC’s such as carpets, glues, sealing caulks, vinyl floors, upholstery fabrics, varnishes and many more.  So, whenever you can, reduce this chemical outpouring by investigating what you are buying, installing or applying and see if there are other variations without the harmful VOC’s.  Every little step helps, especially the paint on the walls!

We are painters in Guilford Ct and right next store to our little town is another great town called Branford Ct.  We go to Ring’s End there as oftern as possible because they carry high quality products and the staff is very knowledgeable!  Their NO VOC paint line is called Nautra Zero and Zero Emissions Paint.  It cost a little bit more then the paint with the harmful chemicals, but when your health and your families health is at risk, cost is not the point!

Here is a great link to Benjamin Moore site with great information about this paint:

http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/product-catalog?prod=Natura_Waterborne_Interior_Paint#piSheen=512&tab=2

Here’s another thought that has nothing to do with house painting but everything to do with your family’s  health, what about the arts and crafts paints that you and your children use?? Is is non VOC ? Don’t assume it is, be sure to check it out. I came across a great article when I was researching this article and I never ever thought that there might be VOC in paints that we give our children to play with, or paint that would have it.  Here is a link to a website that I found this on and I thought that it was very interesting.

http://www.networx.com/article/enjoy-good-healthy-fun-with-no-voc-paint

So, as you can see, there is a lot of areas in our homes and lives that have chemicals, and any little step we can take to slowly start eliminating them really adds us.  It goes far beyond hiring an interior painting contractor, guilford ct to help eliminate this stuff.  I have two kids, my son is 28 and my daughter is 25 and I shudder to think of the many times when they were little we played with play dough and paints and my daughter loved to chew on play dough!  I know it sounds gross, but that was her thing no matter how many times I asked her not to!  Now after reading about toxic chemicals in the arts and crafts products, what was my daughter actually putting in her mouth??   Also, I must apologize for having to sprinkle the phrases ” paint interior, Guilford Ct” and “Paint interior, Madison Ct”  I have to do this during this blog so that the search engines pick up my article and rank it so you can see it.   We are putting out regular blogs about all kinds of stuff that helps improve our lives.

Like I said earlier in the article we have been painters for many many years and our customers always call us when they have painting needs.  We have become fond of our customers and we do care.  Of course we want to give a high quality job in a timely manner, but now we want to make sure it’s a healthy one as well.

Here is a link to another Eco friendly paint company,  I copied a paragraph from their front page website, I will post a link below to their website so you can check them out as well.

ECO FRIENDLY PAINTS At ECOS Paints, we create paints, varnishes, and other finishes that genuinely contain zero VOCs, no toxic solvents, no toxic anything. OUR PETS’ HEALTH!!!

Here is another interesting post from the above Eco website, it’s about our pets!

Why do pets need special paint?

Everybody knows that pets can be much more sensitive to smells, chemicals and pollutants than human beings are. But, it is not only our pets’ ability to detect these chemicals that makes them more sensitive, the fact that they are generally smaller than humans makes them more likely to suffer serious health issues as a consequence of exposure.
Traditional paints contain a cocktail of harmful chemicals, solvents and VOCs. We notice them as odors, but many of them do not smell and these pollutants can off gas from paint for several years. For animals, this problem is doubled, because they are in the habit of actively sniffing their environment and even licking, biting and chewing things that we would never put in our mouths. As a result, pets actively ingest the harmful chemicals that normally remain on walls, floors and doors.

Wow!!! I am an animal lover! I have an English Mastiff that is only two years old and weigh’s about 200lbs right now, and he feels that it’s his main priority in life to lick anything on the floor and sniff anything at all!!! This is really making me realize I need to also re-think my floors. We are going to sand and refinish them this winter, but I  think this article has made me realize I need to do some research on hardwood floor stains, and clear coats and see if I can find ones that have no harmful chemical’s.  One sec, I am going to check this out and post what I find below.

Good news! The above company offers healthy stains!  Let’s see if I can find another website.

Benjamin Moore also offers floor stain with No VOC

This is really amazing and I bet if we dig further we could find all kinds of ways to eliminate toxic chemicals from our home. I would imagine that it’s in our carpets and furniture as well!

Here is a link to a green carpet company that explains what’s in our carpets:

http://greenandhealthy.info/toxiccarpeting.html

Here is an excerpt from the website about new carpets:

  • Contain toluene, benzene, formaldehyde, ethyl benzene, styrene, acetone and a host of other chemicals that are known carcinogens and produce fetal abnormalities in test animals. These chemicals also cause hallucinations, nerve damage and respiratory illness in humans. Please refer to this article: “Toxic Emissions from New Carpets

I would suggest visiting this website and also doing some searching on your own about the toxins in our carpets.  Here is a link to another website that gives instructions and tips on how to clean your carpets without harmful chemicals:

http://www.healthychild.org/easy-steps/clean-carpets-without-dangerous-chemicals/

When I think about when my children were toddlers crawling around on my carpet, leaving a snack on the carpet, I shudder!  But for most of us  we did then what we knew then, when we knew better we did better!  I think that’s the best way to look at it!  I never even thought about chemical’s in my carpets when I remodeled my house 26 years ago!  Well, at least moving forward I can look at things with fresh eyes and make sure that I try to find solutions that are the healthiest when purchasing items and products for my home.   I would love to write another blog about the food we choose to eat, since I became a vegetarian accidentally almost 4 years ago, and how my health has improved on a steady basis.  I will save that for my personal blog.

I hope that that this blog “Best Time To Paint Interior, Guilford Ct” has been really helpful. I started out just wanting to inform my customers about a non toxic no VOC and no emissions paint that is available, and through that it has lead to all the other areas in our home that are just as harmful! Truly informative for me.  Thank you for taking the time to read this blog “Best Time To Paint Interior, Guilford Ct”  I hope it is most usefull!  Please know that if you have any questions you can always reach us at 203-458-2073 or email me or Dave at coastlinepaintersllc@comcast.net

A fresh paint job can sometimes be the best way for a homeowner to renovate or add new excitement to their house. The best paints typically have stronger bonds in their structure, which benefit the quality in many ways.  In paint, normally an unstable solvent is utilized, to which, different shades can be added. At the point when the paint is mixed in the machine (whether water, oil or latex) better paints will not deviate from this color.  You want your paint to still be this color when you actually get it home. For this situation a smooth covering gets mixed immediately and a delightful color emerges on the top.

House paints are generally put into two main basic categories: oil based and water based. The oil based paints are tougher, water-resistant and costly when contrasted with the water based paints. The colors and the folios of oil-based paints, which are normally naturally found in nature, take better to the oil and are typically more brilliant.Water-based paint, which don’t have natural properties to break down the natural covers, typically are duller but not always.

Oil based paints are usually faster and easier to mix.  There are also latex paints and additionally acrylic paints that are likewise utilized as a part of the house paint kingdom. They likewise take after the same technique, as depicted previously that incorporates what and when the paint is mixed after eventually the latex and acrylic vanish gradually. The preference of their moderate vanishing is that they a slim paint film is framed at first glance. Both these paints are produced at a certain temperature and the mixed mixtures are blended in such a route, to the point that they demonstrate the best properties at last. These paints are environment friendly as the solvent that dissipates does not result in any harm to the living over time.

Significance of Interior & Exterior Painting

Home is the spot where one to find serenity and solace following a long day meeting expectations. Homeowners get cognizant in keeping up the interior and exterior of the home for the same reasons. Home interiors assume a fundamental part in the atmosphere and environment of our homes, so they are also important while considering interior configuration or interior painting. The great part about painting the interior is it requires less upkeep contrasted with exterior painting. Both types have their own particular significance and required time to repaint and they are both equally diverse in selection and base.

As time passes, the exterior house paint gets eroded by heat, precipitation, cold, and constantly changing atmospheric conditions. Because of the way the exterior house paint smudges, looses glimmer and in this way looks dull, upkeep is of the utmost importance. Additionally, in presence of water the exterior paint can peel off and strip out later from the building dividers. Its important to pick a paint that will hold up under your specific climate and your specific demographic details. At any rate, the radiance of the exterior paint does not last forever and requires maintenance and eventual replacement. The appraisal of the ideal time and money to repaint or repair your home is more fundamentally a cost that totally depends upon the shrewdness of the purchaser.

When is the correct time to repaint? Typically, the ideal reaction to this question can be given by painting experts by taking one quick look at your current situation. Utilizing a painting expert or professional for house painting is a clever decision. Routinely the exterior paint will uphold color for 5-6 years depending upon the quality of the paint. Without a good looking exterior, it creates the impression that the building is run-down or not well cared for.  This is a totally unnecessary inconvenience.

Since interior paint is almost never affected from outside forces or atmospheric conditions, as a rule interior paint usually requires much less upkeep and replacement than exterior. Recently, quality interior paints have become available which can hold shimmer and brilliance for much longer than it used to.  Also, some paint can be covered with a wet sticky material to protect the color quality. This reduces upkeep time and increases the life of your paint.

Painting, whether it would be for the interior or exterior of your home, office or building is an art which takes years to master. Regardless, its best to learn for yourself what can be done to help make the job easier.  Hire a capable painting foremen for interior or exterior jobs and benefit from the years of knowledge they have.
In conclusion, the significance of paint and the opportune time to repaint depends upon a large parcel of elements like paint-base, interior or exterior, time interim, building and development costs. Intelligent homeowners will elect to find an expert who knows the dangers and challenges that come with selecting the right paint and getting the job done.  Coastline Painters can do wonders for any house paint project you need done.  Don’t hesitate to ask.

College Pro Breaking The Law, Guilford Ct

I’m not trying to pick on College Pro painters, but it seems to me that that the law should apply to everyone.  As I drive around my home town and other local towns in my area, I see the College Pro signs just plunked down anywhere they please. This is against the law.  You are not allowed to put a company sign on any property that you are not contracted for work there.

I have been painting in this area for over 35 years and I know many other local painting contractors that I respect and they would never do this and my company doesn’t either!  We follow our local town laws and respect them.

It’s a cheap illegal way to do business, which is the bottom line for College Pro Painters.

Here is my video with a photo of an illegally placed sign on town property:

Please feel free to call me with any painting questions, we are happy to help you!

PAINTING KITCHEN CABINETS, PAINTERS IN GUILFORD CT

Painting your kitchen cabinets is a great way to give the entire kitchen a fresh, brand new look without breaking the bank! This is why we posted this article PAINTING KITCHEN CABINETS, PAINTERS IN GUILFORD CT to give you some tips about it.

First thing is to clean the cabinets inside and out using a gentle solution like TSP.  You want to make sure there is no dirt, dust and grease on the cabinets.  Let them dry out thoroughly.

Next, you want to protect areas that are not getting painted, so tape some Rosin paper over the counter tops and floor.  You can also tape plastic sheeting over the back splashes and windows if needed.   You will also need a work table for  the doors, drawers and shelves.

Remove the cabinets from the  frames, remove all the hardware.  Put hardware in safe place.  Place the cabinet doors on your work table.  Note:  Be sure to have a window or crack a door in the kitchen to allow fresh outside air inside.

Now, scrub all the face frames, the drawer fronts, doors and shelves with an abrasive pad that has liquid de-glosser on it.  Make sure that you have papers underneath to catch any extra liquid that will drip.  Before it dries, wipe away the residue with a clean de-glosser dampened rage.

If you are moving where the hardware is going to be put back on the doors and drawers, be sure to fill the holes with a two part polyester wood or autobody filler. It dries in pretty quick so make small batches of it. After it dries, you will need to scrape off any excess and then gently sand it so it’s flush with the wood surface.   Next sand all the surfaces using a 100 grit paper.  Make sure to dust off the dust, you can also use a tack cloth.

Choose a high quality primer, such as a oil based primer, they are good for maple, cherry or man made materials.  Use a good quality nylon-polyester brush.  Give it a good day to dry.  Sand the surfaces again using a orbit sander, 220 grit paper. It should be very smooth when you are done.

Next, you want to caulk any open seams using latex caulk.  After applying the caulk, smooth the seam with  a damp finger.  Fill any scratches, dents or dings using a vinyl spackle and smooth it flat with a putty knife.   After it dries, sand again.  Vacuum and clean all surfaces.

Working from top to bottom start painting across the grain.  Sand all the surfaces after the first coat dries with a 280 grit paper.  Vacuum and clean again.  Use a brand new brush for the final coat.  When it dries, you can hang everything back up!
